Before money leaves your account
Limit the amount at risk before delivery.
If a supplier becomes insolvent, a customer with an undelivered order or deposit may be an unsecured creditor and may recover only part of the money, or none. A large upfront payment is therefore a real supplier-risk decision, not just a checkout step.
- Check the legal seller and ABN against the quotation, invoice and payment recipient.
- Check ASIC published notices and the Product Safety recall register immediately before paying.
- Ask why the proposed deposit is required and which irreversible costs it covers.
- Prefer the smallest practical deposit and staged payments linked to written production, dispatch or installation milestones.
- Avoid paying the full balance substantially before dispatch, delivery or another verifiable milestone.
- Use a payment method with available dispute or reversal protections where practical, and confirm the provider’s time limits.
- Get refund, cancellation, delay, title-to-goods and warranty-support terms in writing.
This is general buying guidance, not legal or financial advice. The appropriate payment structure depends on the contract and order.
Start where you are
Which statement sounds like you?
You do not need to read everything. Take the route that matches the decision you are making now.
I am just starting
I do not know which sauna type I want
Compare infrared and traditional heat, then decide on indoor, sheltered or outdoor placement.
I know the type
I need to set a realistic budget
Include freight, access, assembly, electrical work and site preparation before setting the cabin budget.
I am ready to shortlist
I want a shortlist of Australian brands
Open the flagship brand shortlist, then the infrared or traditional child lists if you already know the heat type.
I have a shortlist
I already have two or three brands
Compare exact models, installation information, warranty limits, service and unresolved claims.
The buying sequence
Buy in this order
Brand reputation matters, but only after the product fits your home, power supply, use and total budget.
- 01
Choose the heat and placement
Decide between infrared and traditional, then confirm whether the sauna will be indoors, sheltered or fully exposed.
Compare heat types - 02
Set the complete-project budget
Allow for the cabin, freight, access, assembly, electrical work, base and weather protection.
Use the cost guide - 03
Shortlist three suitable brands
Keep only brands with a current range that fits your space, intended use and installation path.
Open the brand shortlist - 04
Compare exact models
Compare capacity, construction, heater or emitters, electrical demand and warranty, not brand slogans.
Open the comparison tools - 05
Resolve the gaps in writing
Ask for model-specific answers about installation, delivery, labour, freight, outdoor use and evidence claims.
Check warranty differences - 06
Check before paying a deposit
Confirm the final specification, included work, delivery assumptions, cancellation terms and written warranty.

Your project brief
Write this down before comparing brands
A five-minute brief prevents a long brand table from becoming noise.
- Placement
- Indoor, sheltered or fully exposed?
- Available space
- External footprint, ceiling height and access route.
- Power
- Existing supply and work an electrician must confirm.
- Users
- Usual number of people, not the largest claimed capacity.
- Installed budget
- Your ceiling after freight and all site work.
- Support needs
- Assembly, showroom access and local after-sales help.
Installation support
An installer directory is useful, but it may not mean installation is included.
Some retailers provide national assembly services or refer customers to independent installers. That can reduce the search burden, but the commercial and legal relationship still matters.
- Ask whether the installer is an employee, agent or independent contractor.
- Confirm who supplies the quote and who receives payment.
- Identify any separate licensed-electrical work.
- Check whether installer choice affects the product warranty.
- Get responsibility for damage, delays and remedial work in writing.
Comparison tools
Shortlist brands, then compare exact models
Best brands shortlist
Flagship Australian brand shortlist with dated AUD prices, heat type, electrical path and support fit.
Traditional brands
Heater options, sizing, wiring, ventilation and information gaps.
Warranty terms
Coverage, labour, call-outs, freight, transferability and outdoor limits.
The useful outcome
You are ready to buy when your shortlist is small and specific.
Aim to finish with one preferred model, one credible alternative and a written list of any unresolved questions.
- Exact model and specification
- Installed price at your address
- Electrical and access requirements
- Written warranty and exclusions
- Answers to unresolved claims
How to read our research: Every brand receives the same evidence standard. “Not independently verified” identifies an evidence gap; it is not automatically a finding that a claim is false. Read the methodology.
